Our most accessible walks for people wanting easier, flatter, or shorter distance walks without
obstacles such as stiles. Ideal for beginners, less agile walkers or those looking for a more relaxed
amble, these walks mainly involve level paths with good surfaces. There may be occasional brief
inclines, descents, and a small amount of varied or uneven terrain.
This grade is ideal for novice walkers and for those who enjoy exploring at an easy-going pace. Walks
are typically between 5-10km in length with a few short ascents and descents, and some varied
terrain.
These routes are suitable for regular walkers with a good level of fitness and either involve a longer
low-level walk, or some longer/steeper ascents and descents. The terrain on these walks will be
varied and paths may be uneven underfoot.
Suitable for experienced walkers with a strong level of fitness and often a good head for heights.
Either a longer low-level walk or more challenging in terms of longer and steeper ascents/descents.
Terrain on this route will be varied, paths could be rough or rocky in places and may include some
high-level routes, ridge-walking and short sections of non-technical scrambling.
Both a strong level of fitness and substantial mountain walking experience are essential at this level
as the route will involve long, challenging walking days with some prolonged and steep
ascents/descents or longer lower-level walking. There may be some ridge-walking or short non-
technical scrambling, so a good head for heights is helpful. Varied terrain could encompass rough hill
tracks, boggy ground, boulder fields and mountain tops.
Please note that some activities may sit between two difficulty grades, displaying as Easy/Moderate, for example. This is usually due to the itinerary having a mixture of aspects that do not comfortably fit within one grade. For example, the terrain may be Easy while the daily mileages are more Moderate.
