Course Aims & Objectives
Pied A Terre Adventures has created a series of exciting new online courses which you can undertake from the safety of your home. Under the expert tutelage of an International Mountain Leader who has many years' experience as both an instructor and as a guide, the courses will enable you to learn the skills needed to safely and confidently explore the outdoors on your own or with your family. With an engaging and fun format, you can be confident you are learning from the very best while participating in an interactive supportive learning experience.
If you are interested in the outdoors and want to head out on your own adventures you will benefit from these sessions, regardless of whether you are a beginner or someone simply looking to refresh your skills. While we are in this position at home, it is the perfect time to learn a new skill and be ready to explore our glorious countryside when this is all over.
The five sessions will support a progressive instructor led learning experience where the participant logically develops their key skills including map reading, contours, compass skills, route planning and an optional course on planning a European mountain trek.
We are extremely mindful of the current measures to contain Coronavirus which is why these sessions are being run via our secure online video web-based classroom. This will give you the freedom to join the course from the safety of your own home. Plus you get a chance to meet other outdoorsy people and share your experiences with each other.
The attendees will join Richard via video in the secure classroom where the course content will be shared on your screen. The session will be informal and interactive with demonstrations, plenty of opportunity to ask questions, discuss outdoor adventures and enjoy the learning experience. You can even raise a virtual hand to ask questions too! To enable a quality learning experience we keep our group sizes small and there will be a maximum of six students in a session (Please note - 1:1 sessions are also available).
To help support the ongoing learning experience we will record each of the courses and make this available to you via our secure learning site where you can view the video to refresh your skills and recap on the content. These videos will be available for three months from your course - but Richard will continue to be on hand to offer guidance and tips and answer any questions you have. Furthermore, all participants will receive a 10% discount if they book on any of our outdoor courses in future.
You can choose a single course or a number of sessions from the list below:
- Understanding the map
- Conquering contours (turning the map into a 3D world)
- Confident compass work
- Mastering route planning
- Planning a European mountain trek
To book your place, please select from the options below. We will then contact you with full Joining Instructions and date and time choices for your session.
Each session will last approximately 90 minutes plus Q & A.
